  60. Where I went to school every history teacher proudly announced that he was going to make us learn why things happened ‚Äî the political, technical, and economic causes ‚Äî 
  61. and not force us to memorize the dates of this King or that War.  I think we'd have been better off memorizing the dates, than all those phony causes.  We learned how governments progressed towards democracy, weapons grew to A-Bombs, exploited workers became comfortable consumers ‚Äî  the history of politics, of war, of economics, but no human history, nothing about the changes in the inner man or even the development of the mind and heart.
